On Sunday March 16, U.S. President Trump brutally deported more than 230 Venezuelan migrants to prisons in El Salvador. To do so, he invoked the Alien Enemies Act against alleged members of the Tren de Aragua criminal organization. This was an outrageous and illegal action against the basic humanity of Venezuelan migrants, who face dangerous conditions and an uncertain future in Salvadoran prisons.
Join this month’s Webinar to discuss Trump’s targeting of Venezuela migrants in the context of the Trump administration’s other attacks on migrants and the ongoing effort of the U.S. government to bring about regime change in Venezuela. Speakers will also address the impact of hundreds of unilateral coercive measures, known as sanctions, as the root cause of Venezuelan migration.
Featuring Speakers:
- Lucrecia Hernández, lawyer and director of the Venezuelan human rights organization SURES.
- Fran Omar, Salvadoran activist and organizer with the Popular Rebellion and Resistance Bloc of El Salvador
- Vanessa Ramos, President of the American Association of Jurists (AAJ) and member of the National Lawyer’s Guild (NLG).
- Adrienne Pine, CIIS Anthropology Professor & Migration Expert
This month’s online action will be moderated by Alison Bodine, Coordinator of Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice Venezuela Solidarity Campaign
