Reports from direct responders in Venezuela
On June 24, 2026 Venezuela was hit with two devastating earthquakes. In the week that has followed, the Venezuelan army and rescue workers, alongside Venezuelan civil society and mass organizations and international rescue brigades, have worked tirelessly to rescue people trapped under the rubble and provide immediate assistance to impacted communities. Despite these efforts, as of July 1, nearly 2,000 have been confirmed dead, and over 10,000 people have been injured. At least 855 buildings were damaged, and 189 completely collapsed.
The devastation brought on by the earthquakes is compounded by criminal U.S. policies against Venezuela. The blockade, direct theft of Venezuelan assets, and other coercive measures imposed against Venezuela by the U.S. and its allies have cost the Venezuelan economy billions of dollars over the last 10 years. U.S. sanctions continue to impede the Venezuelan government's response and recovery efforts.
This Webinar is being held on July 3, which will mark 6 months since the brutal U.S. attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Maduro and Cilia Flores, and will include updates about the campaign for their freedom from U.S. jail.
This month’s online action will be moderated Alison Bodine, from the Venezuela Solidarity Network and Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice
