In the early hours of January 3, 2026, the U.S. Trump administration launched a brutal bombing attack on Venezuela, killing more than 100 people. That morning, U.S. forces also abducted Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.
For over eight months, President Maduro and Cilia Flores have been imprisoned in the Manhattan Detention Center on bogus “narco-terrorism” and drug and weapons charges. Following multiple delays in the legal process to date, during the most recent legal hearing on July 22, 2026, U.S. district court judge Alvin Hellerstein announced that the trial would begin on June 1, 2027. This signifies that the U.S. government intends to keep the Venezuelan President and First Lady behind bars for at least another year as they attempt to build a case around its flimsy charges.
In the face of the U.S. Trump administration’s blatant violation of international law, we must work to build a campaign demanding their freedom, in defense of human and democratic rights, and the sovereignty of nations. Join this month’s Venezuela Solidarity Network webinar for updates about the case of the President Maduro and Cilia Flores and how you can get involved in building the international campaign for their freedom.
This month’s online action will be moderated by Leonardo Flores, Venezuelan-American analyst and activist with the Venezuela Solidarity Network.
